Time Limit for Entering PCT National Phase: 31 months

 

Annuity Payments: Required every year starting from the filing date. Late settlement is possible within 6 months as of the annual due date upon payment of lateness fees.

 

Filing Language: Specifications, claims, abstract, drawings and related documents should be translated into Arabic if they are in English or French.

 

Procedure: Once the patent application is filed it is queued to be examined in terms of the formalities and patentability provided for in the Patent Law . This process will follow payment of the relevant fees. The committee will then decide whether to grant the patent or not depending on the examination report presented by several university professors and scholars. At a later stage a certified copy of the corresponding letters patent issued in the home country of the applicant or any other foreign one is required.

 

Requirements

 

Filing Requirements for Patent Application:

1- Power of attorney, notarized (a separate Power of Attorney is required for each application)

2- International Classification of the patent.

3- Four copies of the specification and claims in English or French along with the Arabic translation.

4- Four sets of the formal drawings, if any.

5- Certified copy of the priority document, if priority is to be claimed. This document can be filed within 3 months the date of filing the application.

6- The name, address, nationality, profession and nature of business of the applicant.

7- At a later stage a certified copy of the corresponding letters patent issued in the home country of the applicant or any other foreign one is required.
